Famous restaurants in Sarajevo: where the locals eat
Željo for ćevapi, Bosna for burek, the old aščinica kitchens and the restaurants with a view: well-known Sarajevo names, each linked on the map.
Sarajevo has no single “best” restaurant — it has old names every local knows. This list is grouped by what you want to eat, and each link opens the place and its current ratings on Google Maps.
Ćevapi: the city’s dish
Grilled minced-meat fingers in somun bread with onion. The famous shops are all in the old bazaar: Željo, Hodžić, Mrkva and Petica (Ferhatović). Order a “desetka” (ten pieces) or a “petica” (five), with kajmak.

Burek and pies
At Buregdžinica Bosna pies are baked under the “sač” and sold by weight: burek with meat, sirnica with cheese, zeljanica with spinach, krompiruša with potato. Buregdžinica Sač is the other classic. Eat them with yoghurt.

Aščinica: Bosnian home cooking
Old canteens where cooked dishes are displayed and you point at what you want: dolma, okra, bosanski lonac and bey’s soup. Among the oldest are Aščinica Hadžibajrić and Aščinica ASDŽ, along with Nanina Kuhinja.
For a long dinner and a view
For a quiet evening: tiny Dveri in a bazaar alley (book ahead) and Inat Kuća opposite the City Hall, the house famously moved stone by stone. For the whole city below you: Park Prinčeva and Kibe Mahala, known for spit-roast lamb. These restaurants may serve alcohol, so ask when booking.
