Bosnia’s weather season by season: what to pack and when to come
Mild summers in the mountains and hot ones in Mostar, a colourful autumn and a winter of real snow.
Bosnia is a small country with three climates: a mountainous centre (Sarajevo), a Mediterranean south (Mostar and Herzegovina), and high peaks (Bjelašnica and Jahorina).
Summer (June–August)
The main season for Arab visitors. Sarajevo is warm by day and pleasant at night; the mountains are clearly cooler. Mostar and the south are hot — visit in the morning or late afternoon. Bring a light jacket for evenings.
Autumn (September–November)
September is one of the loveliest months: mild and less crowded. October is the season of forest colour. November turns cold, with rain and valley fog.

Winter (December–February)
Snow and sub-zero cold in Sarajevo and the mountains, and the ski season on Jahorina and Bjelašnica. Thermal layers and waterproof shoes are essential; cars need winter tyres.
Spring (March–May)
Waterfalls are at their fullest from snowmelt and everything is green. Changeable weather — bring an umbrella.
Which suits you?
