Bosnia is a country of water: green rivers, cold springs and waterfalls in every direction.

Kravica

The best-known falls in Bosnia, near Ljubuški south of Mostar: a wide half-circle dropping into a green lake where you swim in summer.

Jajce waterfall

In the centre of the historic town of Jajce, where the Pliva drops into the Vrbas. The town itself has a fortress, walls and old lanes.

The Pliva mills

Five minutes from Jajce: small wooden watermills on stilts over the streams between the Pliva lakes.

Skakavac

A short drive north of Sarajevo and one of the highest falls in Bosnia, reached by a forest walk.

Tip: spring has the strongest water but cold swimming; August is the opposite.
