King Fahd Mosque in Sarajevo: where it is and how to visit

The King Fahd Mosque is one of the places Arab visitors ask about most in Sarajevo. It is a large modern mosque in the west of the city, away from the old town, with a cultural centre beside it.
Where is it?
In the Alipašino Polje neighbourhood of Novi Grad municipality, on the western side of the city towards Ilidža and the airport.

The mosque was funded by the government of Saudi Arabia after the war, opened in 2000 and is named after King Fahd bin Abdulaziz. Sources describe it as one of the largest mosques in the Balkans. A cultural centre of the same name stands next to it.
Getting there
Trams heading west towards Ilidža run along the main road near the neighbourhood. By car or taxi it is roughly fifteen to thirty minutes from Baščaršija depending on traffic.
Prayer and etiquette
The five daily prayers and Friday prayer are held here; it fills early on Fridays. Dress modestly and remove your shoes. Visits for sightseeing are outside prayer times.
